LAN, MAN & WAN | Definition, Types, Difference & Full Form

Types Of Networks

  • LAN
  • MAN
  • WAN

LAN, MAN & WAN are three different types of networks that we used to connect devices as well used for communication, but all these networks have their own advantages and disadvantages and you need to must know about that for our basic knowledge about these networks types.

LAN Vs. MAN Vs. WAN

Full-Form Of LAN, MAN & WAN

LAN – Large Area Network
MAN – Metropolitan Area Network
WAN- Wide Area Network

What Is LAN

LAN stands for Large Area Network with a bandwidth of small areas (about a few kilometers) like Buildings, Office, Schools, Universities, Hospital Etc. It has a better network speed (about 100mbps).

LAN

What Is MAN

MAN stands for Metropolitan Area Network with average bandwidth (about 5-50 kilometers) within towns or cities and it has a moderate network speed (about 5-10mbps).

MAN

What Is WAN

WAN stands for Wide Area Network with great bandwidth (about 100,000 Kilometers) within larger geographical regions or countries and it has a lower network speed (about 128kbps-5mbps)

WAN

Difference Between LAN, MAN & WAN

LAN

  • LAN stands for Large Area Network.
  • LAN is made for small areas, buildings, campuses, schools, etc.
  • LAN has a high network speed.
  • LAN is easy to maintain and less costly.
  • LAN is owned by a private organization or company.

MAN

  • MAN stands for Metropolitan Area Network.
  • MAN is made for small towns or cities.
  • MAN has an average network speed.
  • MAN is also easy to maintain but costly than LAN.
  • MAN is owned by both private and public.

WAN

  • WAN stands for Wide Area Network.
  • WAN is made for regions or countries.
  • WAN has a lower network speed.
  • WAN is also easy to maintain but more costly by both LAN or MAN.
  • WAN is owned by the private also but mostly owned by the public.

Conclusion
These three network types have three main differences of bandwidth, speed, prices, in which less bandwidth cost less price with a great speed network, on the other hand, average bandwidth cost average price with average network speed and higher bandwidth cost higher price with lower network speed.
